Elyse

I hesitantly approach our door, the pit in my stomach growing bigger quickly as my brain tries to rationalize what might be happening. Had we done something wrong? Had they changed their minds and decided I wasn’t allowed to have two husbands? Was there a problem with us using an ambulance last night? Did something bad happen to my graduation papers?

My mind is running a mile a minute while it tries to predict what’s about to happen, and Ryder and Joshua step slightly in front of me, instinctually taking a stance of protection as we address the women that ran the event last night.

“Mrs. Donns-Kenneth? We are claiming ceremony organizers, and we need to speak to you about a matter of great importance. Alone, please.”

I can feel the need to protect me that immediately hits my husbands, and I feel their shoulders tense and they get closer together to block me from the women even more.

“Whatever you have to discuss with our wife can be said to all of us,” Ryder warns.

“I wish I could entertain that request, Mr. Donns. Unfortunately, some questions have been raised as to the validity of the connection shared between the three of you, and we need Elyse on her own to discuss how we’re going to proceed.”

“What the fuck do you mean, there’s a question about the validity of our connection? She’s our mate, we’re married. You can’t separate us; you know how that would affect our new bond.” I have yet to see anything other than sweet and caring from Joshua, and I’m a little jarred at his sudden change in demeanor, but I’m getting just as worked up as he is.

“You can’t take our girl from us. We just got her,” Ryder fumes.

“Mr. Donns, we simply need to have a conversation with your wife here. It shouldn’t take us too long. Please, grab what you need to be comfortable, here’s a room key for a room on the next floor down. I urge you to wait there for further instructions while we are discussing the matters at hand. I’d hate to have to report to my boss that there was disobedience from some of the ceremony participants.” The woman gives us a shrewd look, and hands the guys a key.

“Elyse, baby, we’ll get this sorted out, okay? We belong together, you’re my wife. They can’t change that. We’ll be back for you the second they let us.” Ryder crashes my body against his and claims my mouth as a sign of possession, and Joshua follows suit. After they grab their bags, watching them walk down the hall is physically painful. Our mate bond is pulled taught, and it’s itching, clawing at me to run after them and bury myself in their warmth.

“Okay, let’s get this over with.” I slip inside the room, and after I change into some dry clothes, I walk back to the sitting area in our hotel room to meet with the woman named Marge. No one with good intentions was ever named Marge.
